LIVING
THE DREAM
The Art Of
At 10th Planet Fontana, Larry Stroud’s philosophy is simple: position before submission. He emphasizes that strong positioning and relentless pressure create openings that make submissions inevitable.
For Larry, 90% of passing and top control comes from pressure, and only 10% is pure technique. Even if your technique is perfect, without pressure you’re missing the most important piece. His style builds athletes who can break opponents down with consistent control until the finish presents itself.
Larry is also known for his leg-lock system, where the guiding principle is: “If you’re on the run, eventually you’re going to get caught.” He teaches students to stay a step ahead — always be first with grips, dictate the pace, and set the tone — forcing opponents into reactions that lead to inevitable submissions.

Training under Larry isn’t about reckless hard rolls. Instead, he prioritizes technical drilling, situational rounds, and positional sparring as the fastest way to improve. His program develops skill with purpose, so students build a complete game without bad habits. Outside the mats, Larry stresses the importance of recovery, sleep, stretching, and listening to the body. He believes longevity is key: training hard matters, but training smart ensures athletes can perform at their peak for years to come.

Larry is a JJWL Expert Champion, a NABJJF Champion, a Grappling 5 Expert Champion, and a 2× NAGA Belt Champion. On the professional stage, he’s earned multiple wins at Subversiv Combat Jiu-Jitsu, including two submission victories at the Hard Rock Hotel and Long Beach, plus another highlight heel-hook finish in 2024. He also holds notable submission victories at ADCC Open, including heel-hook finishes against top regional talent.
Beyond grappling, Larry is undefeated in other combat sports, with a 2-0 amateur MMA record (including sanctioned Combat Jiu-Jitsu fights under CAMO) and a 2-0 amateur boxing record.

Today, Larry continues to compete while serving as both the Owner and Head Coach of 10th Planet Fontana, and head coach of the Jiu-Jitsu program at California State University in San Bernardino. At 10PF, Larry is building a thriving community and developing the next generation of grapplers. At CSUSB's BJJ Club, Larry is providing structured training, technical development, and competitive coaching to university students. Truly committed to bringing focused, high-level, and modern no-gi approach to every class he leads.
